my first balaclava

artist statement

Ever since I was able to dress myself, clothes have been my way of expression. Being the youngest in my family, I never lacked clothes of all colors, genders and shapes... And what I wanted, but couldn’t have, I decided to create it… with glue, thread and needle, I made my first bikini at the age of 6.

At the age of 12, my mother surprised me by coming home with a sewing machine. Without knowing the minimum necessary design, pattern and sewing techniques, I began to create my own designs, from scratch or through the creative process of up-cycling. Although I admit that I discovered this term a while ago - :) - (in the "third world" only people with low resources recycle and seek to reuse used things).

During the quarantine, when all the shops were closed, I didn't have much else to create with, except some rolls of wool that had been passed down from generation to generation without being used. And that's how I got into the world of crochet.

A few months later and from the other side of the world -Germany-, I had the opportunity to go to skiing for the first time in my life, and of course I thought, a balaclava will be the best accessory for this occasion.

After a couple of weeks, I did it! The first balaclava was born and step by step it has become this beautiful project that I present to you.

comeflor. m or f

venezuelan word, that comes from come (“eats”) +‎ flor (“flower”), whose non-literal translation is:

a naive person.

comeflor is a brand oriented towards streetwear, and in my personal taste -of course-, my motto as a designer is:

"I will never create something that I would not wear myself".

Out of the simplicity of the structures, shapes and bright colors, I look for my pieces to stand out from the crowd that walks in narrow streets, dressed in dark and opaque colors
